Yamaha YSL354 Trombone
Durable, with a great sound and easy to play, this trombone is ideal for new musicians. Inner slideThe chrome-plated yellow brass drawn inner slide is very durable and has a quick, sensitive response. Outer slideThe one-piece drawn yellow brass outer slide maintains an accurate diameter throughout its length and this type of construction ensures, airtightness, smooth action, and exceptional durability and adds resonance to the sound. Inner slide stockingsSpecially designed one-piece inner slide stockings guarantees airtight slide construction, offer smoother slide action and better alignment, even in the extended 6th and 7th positions. Tubular bracesLong-lasting nickel-silver tubular braces contribute to the stability of the slide and enhance smooth slide action. BalancerThe balancer found on the YSL-354 perfectly proportions the instrument's weight. Pressure formed tubingPerfectly rounded tubing results in less turbulence and a smoother air flow, thus allowing for an excellent scale and reduced resistance. Laser-fused pluzuma welded bellA high-energy laser fuses the brass together for a virtually seamless bell which allows continuous even vibrations. Slide lockThe unique slide lock design on all Yamaha trombones keeps the slide locked in place and keeps it from accidentally falling. Weight destributionBeginners are more comfortable playing the YSL-354 because its superb weight distribution makes it easier to hold. BracingThe large, easy-to-hold nickel silver bracing guards against possible slide damage if the instrument is dropped and also lessens fatigue while playing. MouthpipeYamaha trombones have mouthpipes featuring special acoustic designs allowing for precise intonation and greater blowing control.

Excellent quality!Oct 14, 2010

Excellent trombone. Even though what I got for my son is second hand. The previous buyer took good care of it and the quality of YSL-354 Trombone is just amazing.
Before I bought this one, I bought a Stagg Lacquer Plated Slide Tenor Trombone with brand name SKY which cost about $200. (Please avoid it at all cost.) It looks great at first but the inside of slide rust quickly and my son had a very difficult time with it for two years. Finally my son entered middle school and really wanted a better one. His band director e-mailed me his advice:
"The slide not sticking is the most important quality. If the curved-part of the Trombone slide is resting on the floor, and you pick up the rest of the trombone (straight up) then the outer slide (the part resting on the floor) will stay on the floor and the inner slide will lift straight up (and out if you pull too far) from the outer slide. If the outer slide 'catches,' then when you lift, the whole trombone (inner and outer slide) will lift up off the floor."
My son's old trombone "catches", big time. Then I found Yamaha USL-354, e-mailed the band director's advice to the seller and confirmed that this trombone would work just like the band director requested. Got the trombone. No problem ever since. Wish I knew the trick two years ago.

YSL354 Trombone We bought one used in perfect condition for our 12 year old. It was $20 more than renting for a year so it was an excellent choice and a better instrument.
