Most trombone stands insert a rod into your bell and the end of the slide rests against the ground. After using the Hercules, I've realised this is not ideal. On traditional stand, the slide holds the weight, and the stand just keeps it upright (not to mention the stress on the bell). The Hercules supports the whole instruments weight by the handle, THE WAY YOU WOULD IF YOU NEVER SET IT DOWN, GENIUS! No stress on the bell or slide.
My only negative comment is that it is NOT adjustable (height wise). Not needed stand-wise, but it would be nice to adjust it to fit in my gig bag (no biggie really)

Having only used stands in the past that support the trombone by its bell, I was surprised to see that there was another option. This stand grips the trombone exactly where your hand holds the trombone during use, so it's a perfect method. The "lean" to the stand also lends it lots of stability, making it pretty darned safe to leave unattended, too.
Great stand, definitely worth the price.

I recently joined a band with many trombones so I see many types of stands. Overall the Hercules is a very sturdy stand, hands down. It does have a few downsides though. It does not collapse down into a manageable length, the leg lock knob does not tighten the legs although the rubber feet on the legs hold the legs in place. It holds the trombone at an angle by the slide brace rather than sliding the bell over the stand - a feature which they advertise as better for the horn, but I don't see as an advantage. Having the horn sit at an angle takes up more space in what is usually a tight spot. The mechanism for holding the slide brace is not vertically adjustable so it holds the horn at an even sharper angle. Overall it is not a bad stand but I definitely would not have paid the full $55.00 price for it - I got it for about $28.00 plus shipping on Amazon. Without the lower price option, one of the other type stands would have been my choice.

Effective for trombonists who use a microphone!Nov 12, 2011

I am very impressed with this stand. I have used it for a year and gig regularly in a dance band using a clip on microphone. I need to set my horn down for numbers that I only dance, and this stand is by far the most effective for trombonists using clip-ons. The in-bell type stands usually come in contact with the microphone, which when using Shure is not what you want happening. As for my slide: I have had no problems with this Hercules design denting my slide and this is 100 shows and counting with this stand. Oh yeah, the roadies "misplaced" my stand so I am even replacing it I love it that much. It even holds my bass bone with no troubles. You get used to the on/off technique pretty quick. Come on we are trombonists you can't let a stand give you that much of a challenge, we have learned to maneuver a slide right?

Got this as a christmas present last year, and have used it extensively since then. The same way the Empire State building was overbuilt, this stand was built to take much more than what a Trombone can throw at it. Everything is rigid and strong, and even after multiple drops and rough handling (getting it in and out of lockers/cars) it still performs like it was new. Since this holds the Trombone like it would if you were playing, it is safe (to overall instrument integrity), and there is no risk of stretching the bell.
Bottom line: if you are using a $2500+ professional trombone, and you want to keep it off the ground and protected, invest in this stand and have peace of mind. I'm extremely satisfied.
