Excellent for the price!Feb 09, 2010 For the price ($200), I am quite happy with this trombone. This is the first trombone I have bought since the student trombone that my parents gave me in 5th grade. As a college student, I was looking for an instrument that is a step up from a "beginner trombone", but that was within my price range. After weeks of searching, I am convinced that Cecilio instruments were the only ones that fit my criteria! When I received the instrument, it was just what I expected: an excellent blend of quality and economy. The nickel plating makes it look great, and it really does shine like in the picture. The slide needed some oil (sorry, but I like Al Cass much better than the thick Cecilio lubricant), but is otherwise good. The limiting factor in the sound quality is definitely my lips, which are almost two years out of shape - the instrument itself sounds great (as far as I can tell). The bore size of 0.500 is in-between the standard student size and the standard intermediate size, without the high price of intermediate trombones. Overall, I am quite pleased with my purchase.
Also, the case that comes with it is interesting - I've never seen anything like it. It is incredibly light-weight, yet surprisingly firm. The outer material is a thick cloth, like what backpacks are made out of. It has two handles and an optional strap, which I find quite convenient. It seems pretty durable, and it protects the instrument well.
